Esthetic dermatology and cosmetic care
The Brussels Skin Center offers cutting-edge treatments in esthetic dermatology and cosmetic care.
Esthetic dermatology
Sclerotherapy of spider veins
Sclerotherapy is used to eliminate unsightly vessels that appear on the surface of the skin, mainly on the lower limbs (legs). During an initial consultation, our surgeon, Dr Gil Vervloet, will check whether sclerotherapy is the right solution for your needs, answer your questions and define your treatment plan. During this consultation, Dr Vervloet will perform a Doppler ultrasound, an imaging technique used to monitor the venous system. During the treatment appointment, micro-injections, which are not very painful, of a sclerosing product (aetoxysclerol) will be carried out in order to eliminate the spider veins. The same product can also be injected in foam form for larger spider veins. The treatment can sometimes be completed with the Nd-YAG laser (Excel V). Two or more sessions may be necessary depending on the extent of the spider veins.
Indications: spider veins.
Botulinum toxin injection
Botulinum toxin injections are used to temporarily block the contraction of certain facial muscles while maintaining the face’s natural expression. This safe treatment reduces certain facial wrinkles (frown lines, crow’s feet wrinkles, edges of the lips, etc.), thus counteracting the effects of skin ageing. The result is already visible after a few days and lasts four to six months.
Indications: unsightly wrinkles on the forehead, at the corner of the eyes or the oral commissure.
Botulinum toxin can also be used in cases of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) to prevent the nervous system from stimulating the sweat glands.
Indications: excessive sweating.
Dermal facial fillers (hyaluronic acid).
Dermal facial fillers, also known simply as ‘fillers’, reduce deep facial wrinkles and restore lost volume (cheekbones, lips, fold between the nose and corner of the mouth, etc.). They are injected in the upper layer or deeper into the skin, depending on the individual case. Your dermatologist at the Brussels Skin Center will offer you a resorbable Hyaluronic Acid filler that is very well tolerated.
Indications: deep facial wrinkles.
Treatment with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy is a natural treatment used in dermatology to stop hair loss and hair thinning in the context of androgenetic alopecia (baldness), in both men and women. The blood taken from the patient is centrifuged, and the PRP is reinjected into the scalp. The injections are quite painless and the side effects are almost non-existent.
Indications: hair loss, thinning hair
PRP treatment can also be used for facial skin rejuvenation. It is a non-surgical facelift, completely natural and 100% biocompatible, since the PRP is obtained from the patient’s own blood which is centrifuged in order to retain only the plasma. This plasma rich in growth factors will stimulate the synthesis of collagen and elastin, which in turn improves the quality and texture of the skin, reduces wrinkles and fine lines, and firms the skin.
Indications: sunken dark circles, “tired” look, dull complexion, tired skin, dark spots, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, scars.
Microneedling and nanoneedling
Microneedling
Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure which consists in creating micro-perforations in the skin using an electric pen fitted with micro-needles whose main actions will be twofold:
1. Stimulate the production of elastin and collagen in the dermis and thus redensify the skin.
2. Create micro-channels, which will allow the superficial layers of the skin to receive active ingredients.
Indications: enlarged pores, sagging skin, dull complexion, acne scars, stretch marks, dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles.
Nano-needling
Nano-needling is a non-invasive treatment, and a needle-free alternative to microneedling, used to rejuvenate the skin, improve the complexion, reduce fine wrinkles and tighten the pores of the skin.
The device used is an electric pen fitted with microscopic tips that infuse the rejuvenating active ingredients into the skin.
Indications: enlarged pores, sagging skin, dull complexion, dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles.
Exfoliative Skin Peeling
Superficial chemical peeling is a procedure involving the application of an active ingredient, such as glycolic acid, to the skin which will exfoliate the superficial layer of the skin in order to rid it of dead skin cells, promote cell regeneration and thus improve the skin’s appearance, texture, and pigmentation.
Indications: enlarged pores, dark spots, tired skin, dull complexion, fine lines, oily skin.
